HMS Sheffield (1975) DG  (2nd)

    
This the second ship to carry the name HMS Sheffield was the name ship of the first batch of type 42, air defence destroyers.

Built by Vickers, laid down 15-Jan-1970, launched 10-Jun-1971, commissioned 16-Feb-1975.

Appeared at the Silver Jubilee Review 1977.

Formed part of the Task force sent to the Falkland Islands 1982 following the invasion of these islands by Argentinian forces.

Struck and critically damaged by an Exocet missile fired from a Dassault Super Etendard aircraft 04-May-1982.

Taken under tow by HMS Yarmouth but scuttled 10-May-1982.

Won the Battle Honour: Falkland Islands 1982.
