HMS Quickmatch (1942) DD  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Quickmatch was a Q Class, destroyer.

Built by White, laid down 06-Feb-1941, launched 11-Apr-1942, and commissioned 30-Sep-1942.

On commissioning was manned by the Royal Australian Navy, and went to the Mediterranean. Took part in the Sicily and Salerno landings.

Mar-1944 as part of the 4th Destroyer Flotilla went to the Eastern Fleet in the Indian Ocean and took part in carrier raids against Japanese held territory. At the end of 1944 went to Australia as part of the British Pacific Fleet, then from early 1945 served with US Task Force 57 until the end of the war.

Transferred permanently to the Royal Australian Navy 1945.

Conversion to an anti-submarine frigate similar to a type 15 took from 15-May-1950 to 23-Sep-1955.

Paid off to reserve 26-Apr-1963 and served as an accommodation ship.

Sold for scrap 15-Feb-1972 and broken up in Japan.

Won the Battle Honours: English Channel 1942, Atlantic 1943, Sabang 1944 and Okinawa 1945.
