HMS Onslaught (1942) DD  (3rd)

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Onslaught was an O Class, destroyer.

Built by Fairfield, laid down 14-Jan-1941, launched 09-Oct-1941, and commissioned 19-Jun-1942.

Spent 1942 in Russian convoy escort duty, then 1943 in the Atlantic with the 3rd or 5th support groups.

Dec-1943 took part in operations against the German ship Scharnhorst.

Early 1944 was again spent in the Atlantic, but was in the Channel for the Normandy landings.

After this it was back to the Arctic until the end of the war.

Used as a submarine tender at Portsmouth from Jan-1946, then a target ship 1947.

Put into reserve 1950.

Sold to the Pakistani Navy 05-Mar-1951 and renamed Turghril.

Used as an accommodation ship 1987-88.

Won the Battle Honours: Arctic 1942-45, Atlantic 1943, Normandy 1944 and Norway 1945.
