HMS Lightning (1941) DD  (10th)

Built by Hawthorn Leslie laid down 15-Nov-1938, launched 22-Apr-1940, and commissioned 28-May-1941.

On commissioning joined the 19th Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean. Saw action at the Salerno and Anzio landings.

Torpedoed and sunk 12-Mar-1943 by German Torpedo boat S55, north of Algeria.

Won the Battle Honours: Malta Convoys 1941-42 and Diego Suarez 1942.
