This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Lightning was a
14-gun, fireship. Originally a 14-gun, sloop, (Lovely Lass), Bought 1776 and renamed HMS Sylph, 85ft long, 26ft wide and of 274 tons builders measurement. Converted to a fireship, and renamed HMS Lightning, 25-Aug-1779. Sold 01-May-1783.
