HMS Kelvin (1939) DD  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Kelvin was a K Class, destroyer.

Built by Fairfield, laid down 05-Oct-1937, launched 19-Jan-1939, and commissioned 27-Nov-1939.

On commissioning joined the Home Fleet. Then Apr-1940 went to the Mediterranean to join Force H.

Was damaged May-1941 during the Crete evacuations.

1943 took part in operation for the North African landings.

1944 was in the channel for Normandy landings operations.

Dec-1944 it was back to the Mediterranean, where she remained until Jul-1945, when she returned to the UK.

Sold 1949 and broken up at Troon.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1940, Spartivento 1940, Crete 1941, Mediterranean 1941-43, Malta Convoys 1942, Sirte 1942, Aegean 1944 and Normandy 1944.
