HMS Hermione (1941) CC  (3rd)

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Hermione was an anti-aircraft, light cruiser.

Built by Stephens of Govan, laid down 06-Oct-1937, launched 18-May-1939, and commissioned 25-Mar-1941.

On completion joined the 2nd Cruiser Squadron and took part in operations during the Hunt for the Bismarck. Then joined Force H at Gibraltar Jun-1941.

Served as escort for Several Malta convoys and operations to fly fighter reinforcements to the island.

On 02-Aug-1941 rammed and sank the Italian submarine Tembien in the Sicily narrows.

Mar-1942 escorted the invasion convoy from Gibraltar to Durban and May-1942 took part in the invasion of Madagascar.

Then it was to the Eastern Mediterranean and joined the 15th Cruiser Squadron.

During the eastern convoy of Operation Harpoon/Vigorous on 16-Jun-1942 was torpedoed and sunk by U-205 south of Crete. 

Won the Battle Honours: 'Bismarck' 1941, Mediterranean 1941, Malta Convoys 1941-42 and Diego Suarez 1942.
