This the third ship to carry the name HMS Gurkha was a Tribal
Class, destroyer. Built by Fairfield, laid down 06-Jul-1936, launched 07-Jul-1937, commissioned 21-Oct-1938. Early in WW2 Gurkha was with the Home Fleet and on 23-Feb-1940 sank U-53 south of the Faroes. Then she took part in the Norwegian Campaign where 09-Apr-1940 she was sunk by air attack off Stavanger. Won the Battle Honours: North Sea 1940 and Norway 1940.
