HMS Express (1934) DD  (8th)

    
This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Express was an E Class, destroyer.

Built by Swan Hunter, laid down 02-Mar-1933, launched 29-May-1934 and commissioned 31-Oct-1934.

Took part in the King George V Silver Jubilee Fleet Review 16-Jul-1935.

Operated as a minelayer with the 20th Destroyer Flotilla.

Struck a mine in late Aug-1940 and was badly damaged, losing everything forward of the bridge. repairs took a year.

Then it was out to join the Eastern Fleet in the Indian Ocean. Was present at the sinking of the Prince of Wales and Repulse by the Japanese.

Transferred to Royal Canadian Navy 03-Jun-1943 and renamed Gatineau.

Sold 1947.

Won the Battle Honour: Dunkirk 1940.
