This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Cumberland was a third rate, 70-gun ship-of-the-line.

Built at Chatham Dockyard, launched 21-Oct-1842, 180ft long, 54ft wide and of 2,214 tons builders measurement.

Became a training ship 1870.

Burned by accident 17-Feb-1889 on the river Clyde.

Wreck broken up 1889 at Rosneath Bay.
