HMS Cardiff  (1979) DG  (3rd)

    
This the third ship to bear the name Cardiff was one of the first batch of 12, Type 42 Air Defence Destroyers.

Built by Vickers' Shipbuilding of Barrow-in-Furness, laid down 1972, launched 22-Feb-1974, and commissioned at Portsmouth in 1979. 

Has seen action in the Falklands, Gulf and Adriatic.

The ship's motto is 'Agris in cardine rerum - Keen in Emergency'

Took part in the Trafalgar 200 Fleet Review.

Paid off 18-Jul-2005.

Won the Battle Honours: Falkland Islands 1982 and Kuwait 1991.
