HMS Caledonia (1865) BB  (3rd)

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Caledonia was laid down at Woolwich Dockyard in 1860, designed as a 2nd rate, 91-gun ship-of-the-line, intended to be 252ft long, 57ft wide and of 3,715 tons builders measurement.

In Jun-1861 the design was altered to be completed as an ironclad battleship, 273ft long, 58ft wide, and of 4,125 tons builders measurement, or 6,832 tons displacement. 

Completed Jul-1865 with an establishment of 24 x 7in muzzle loading guns..

She served mainly in the Mediterranean until 1872, when she returned to home waters until paying off in 1875.

Sold 30-Sep-1886 and broken up at Charlton.
