      This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Brilliant was a 
      second class cruiser. Built at Sheerness Dockyard, laid down 1890, launched 24-Jun-1891, and completed 1893. On completion went into reserve at Chatham 1893-1901. Joined the Cruiser Squadron 1901-03, then to the South Atlantic Station 1903-04. Used as an RNR Drill Ship at Southampton 1904-05. Then the America & West Indies Station 1906-11. back into reserve 1911-14. With the outbreak of WW1 completed patrols in the North Sea 1914. Then a depot ship on the Tyne 1914-15, and at Lerwick 1915-18. Expended as a blockship at Ostend, 23-Apr-1918. Won the Battle Honours: Belgian Coast 1914 and Zeebrugge 1918.
