Wooden Screw Gunvessel 3-gun

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Bittern was a 3-gun, wooden screw gunvessel.

Built at Pembroke Dock, launched 17-Dec-1869, 170ft long, 29ft wide, and of 663 tons builders measurement, displacing 805 tons. Armed with 1 x 7in muzzle loading and 2 x 40pdr guns.

Sold Nov-1887 for breaking up.

Won the Battle Honours: Ashantee 1873-74 and Alexandria 1882.
