HMS Astraea (1895) CC  (4th)

    
This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Astraea was the name ship of a class of eight, 2nd Class Protected Cruisers.

Built at Devonport Dockyard, laid down 14-Aug-1890, launched 17-Mar-1893 and completed 05-Nov-1895. 

On completion served in the Mediterranean 1895-98, returned to the UK and a refit at Chatham 1898-99. Then back to the Mediterranean 1899-1900. On to the China Station 1900-02, then back to the UK and another refit at Chatham 1902-04. Returned to the Mediterranean 1904 and again on to the China Station 1904-11.

After this it was back to the UK to join the 3rd Fleet at the Nore 1911-13. To the Cape Station 1913-19, and took part in the bombardment of Dar-es-Salaam 08-Aug-1914.

Returned to the UK and paid off 1919.

Sold 1920 and broken up in Germany.

Won the Battle Honour: Cameroons 1914.
