This the ninth ship to carry the name HMS Zephyr was a Z
Class, destroyer leader. As destroyer leader she had slightly reduced
armament to allow the increased complement and working space needed to
control a flotilla. Built by Vickers Armstrong on the Tyne, laid down 13-Jul-1942, launched 15-Jul-1943, and commissioned 06-Sep-1944. On commissioning joined the Home Fleet. Carried out Russian convoy escort, Norwegian carrier raids and cruiser patrols until May 1945. When Zephyr in company with Zealous, Zest and Zodiac went to Denmark to assist with its liberation. Appeared at the Coronation Review 1953. Arrived at Dunston for breaking up 02-Jul-1958. Won the Battle Honour: Arctic 1945.
