HMS Warspite (1967) SSN  (8th)

This the eighth HMS Warspite was a Nuclear Powered Fleet submarine.

Built by Vickers Armstrong of Barrow, she was laid down in 10-Dec-1963, launched 25-Sep-1965 and commissioned 18-Sep-1967.

Details of her service need more research.

She was initially fitted to fire Mk8 or Mk20 torpedoes, and also lay mines. Refitted about 1970 to fire Mk23 torpedoes.

Unlike her sister ship HMS Valiant, Warspite's sonar was not updated in the late 1970's. In the early 1980's she was fitted to fire Sub-Harpoon missiles.

Paid off in 1993 after cracks were found in her reactor core during refit.

Awaiting final disposal.
