This the tenth ship to carry the name HMS Surprise/Surprize was a 4-gun, wooden screw gunvessel.

Built by Wigram of Blackwall, launched 16-Mar-1856, 181ft long, 28ft 6in wide and of 680 tons builders measurement. Armed with 1 x 110pdr, 1 x 68pdr and 2 x 2pdr guns.

Took part in the Royal Fleet Review 1856.

Broken up Nov-1866.

Won the Battle Honour: China 1856-60.
