HMS Spartiate (1798)  (1st)
3rd Rate 74-gun

    
This the first ship to carry the name HMS Spartiate was originally French.

Captured 01-Aug-1798 at the Battle of the Nile, and rated a third rate, 74-gun ship-of-the-line. 182ft 6in long, 50ft wide and of 1,949 tons builders measurement.

Fought at the Battle of Trafalgar, where she suffered light damage, with three of her crew killed and 17 injured. (see: Fleets after the Battle).

Reduced to a Sheer Hulk Aug-1842

Breaking up completed by 30-May-1857.

Won the Battle Honour: Trafalgar 1805.
