This the only ship to carry the name HMS Rotherham was an R
Class (1942), destroyer leader. As destroyer leader she had slightly
reduced armament to allow the increased complement and working space
needed to control a flotilla. Built by John Brown on the Clyde, laid down 10-Apr-1942, launched 21-Mar-1942, and commissioned 27-Aug-1942. To the Eastern Fleet in South African waters 1943. Then 1944 still with the Eastern Fleet, went to the Indian Ocean where she stayed for the remainder of the war. Decommissioned Jan-1946 and went into reserve.. Transferred to the Indian Navy 29-Jul-1949 and renamed Rajput. Broken up 1976. Won the Battle Honours: Sabang 1944, Burma 1945 and East Indies 1945.
