HMS Prince of Wales (201?) CV (9th) |

This the ninth ship to carry the name HMS Prince of Wales is
projected to be a Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier. First steel was cut 26-May-2011 and construction begun. Work on Lower Block 03 (LB03) started at Govan Sep-2011. Work on LB02 began at Portsmouth Feb-2012. Two bow sections arrived at Rosyth from Appledore Mar-2012. Lower Block 03 (LB03) and Lower Block 04 (LB04) construction continues at Govan. Lower Block 02 (LB02) is well underway at Portsmouth with the installation of diesel generator sets begun in Oct-2012. These are so large they have to first be installed and the rest of the block completed around them. It is possible the ship could be mothballed or sold on completion as a defence review in late 2010 tried to cancel the project. However with usual changing Defence policy there is plenty of time for plans to be changed several times before completion.
