This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Portland was a fourth
rate, 50-gun ship. Built at Sheerness Dockyard, launched 01-Apr-1770, 146ft long on the deck, 119ft 9in long at the keel , 40ft 6in wide, 17ft 6in deep in the hold and of 1,044 73/94 tons builders measurement. Altered to become a 10-gun store ship in 1800. Then reduced to a Prison hulk at Portsmouth Jan-1802. Sold 19-May-1817
