This the third ship to carry the name HMS Portland was a fourth
rate, two deck, 50-gun ship.
Built by Snelgrove of Limehouse, launched 11-Oct-1744, 140ft long at the deck, 113ft 9in long at the keel, 40ft wide, 16ft 10in deep in the hold, and of 968 8/94 tons builders measurement. Sold 15-Mar-1763. Won the Battle Honours: 'Auguste' 1746, Ushant 1747, 'Magnanime' 1748, Lagos 1759 and Quiberon Bay 1759.
