HMS Northampton (1878) BB  (1st)

     
This the only HMS Northampton was the name ship of a class of two Ironclad battleships.

Built by Napier, laid down Oct-1874, launched 18-Nov-1877 and completed in Dec-1878. 

Initial deployment was as Flagship on the North America and West Indies station from 1879-86. After this she spent most of her time in Reserve at home. She was re-commissioned as a training ship in 1894 and continued in sea going condition until 1904, when she was reduced to the reserve.

Sold 04-Apr-1905.
