This the first ship to carry the name HMS Nairana was a
mixed carrier which carried both landplanes and seaplanes. Built by Denny, bought 1916, and completed as a mixed carrier, 315ft long, 45ft 6in wide and armed with 4 x 12pdr guns. Completed 25-Aug-1917. Operated seaplanes from a hangar aft, and landplanes from a flying off ramp and hangar forward. Aircraft were transferred from the forward hangar to the flying off ramp by a lift. The first to be used in any aircraft carrier worldwide. Carried 7 aircraft. Sold 1920.
