HMS Mercury (1879) CC  (14th)

    
This the fourteenth ship to carry the name HMS Mercury was designed as a despatch vessel, but re-rated a 2nd class cruiser.

Built at Pembroke Dock, laid down 16-mar-1876, launched 17-Apr-1878, and completed Sep-1879

On completion went into reserve at Portsmouth 1879-90, then went to the China Station 1890-95. returned to the UK and went into reserve at Portsmouth 1895-1903.

Used as a Navigation School ship for navigating Officers at Portsmouth 1903-1905. Then a Submarine Depot Ship at Portsmouth 1906-13.

Hulked at Chatham 1914.

Sold 1919 and broken up at Bo'ness.
