HMS Lancaster (1992) FF  (7th)

    
This HMS Lancaster is the seventh to carry the name is the fourth of 16 Type 23 Duke Class frigates.

Built at Yarrow Shipbuilders on the Clyde. laid down 18-Dec-1987, launched 24-May-1990, completed Dec-1991 and commissioned 01-May-1992.

In 1994 Lancaster served as West Indies guardship, followed by deployment to the East coast of North America for 8 months. 1996-97 Falkland Islands guardship. Then 1998 UK representative on the NATO Standing naval Force Atlantic (SNFL).

A major 12 month refit was undergone during 1999, followed by a year of trials and training. 

Deployment to the Arabian Gulf followed in 1991 for 6 months on the Armilla Patrol.

Lancaster returned to the UK in Jul-2001 to prepare for another deployment to the Falkland Islands. 

On her return another major period of maintenance and systems upgrade followed.

The ships mascot in 2005 is an African Grey Parrot called Sunny which has been with the ship since Apr-2002, when she replaced her predecessor.

Took part in the Trafalgar 200 Fleet Review.

Refitted at Portsmouth Sep-2010 to Jan-2012 at a cost of £22m.

In service Feb-2012.
