HMS Ibis (1941) SL  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Ibis was a Black Swan Class (1939) escort vessel (sloop).

Built by Furness SB Co, laid down 22-Sep-1939, launched 28-Nov-1940 and completed 30-Aug-1941.

On completion served as convoy escort on the Freetown route, until Jul-1942. Then refitted at Tilbury Aug/Sep-1942.

Took part in Operation Torch, the North Africa landings.

Two days after the landings took place  on 10-Nov-1942,was attacked and sunk by Italian torpedo bombers north of Algiers.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1941-42 and North Africa 1942.
