This the eighteenth ship to carry the name HMS Hind was a
Modified Black Swan Class (1942) sloop. Built by Denny, laid down 31-Aug-1942, launched 30-Sep-1943 and completed 11-Apr-1944. On commissioning and completing her working up, she took part in preparations for the Normandy landings, and continued with general escort duties in the English Channel until the end of Jul-1944. Left to join the Eastern Fleet by escorting convoys along the way. Arrived at Colombo 05-Dec-1944. Continued with escort work along the Burma coast until the end of 1944, then continued in the Indian Ocean until the end of Feb-1945. Remained at Colombo until Apr-1945 needing repair work and continued to Alexandria for repairs which took from 23-Apr/01-Aug-1945. Left Alexandria to join the Pacific Fleet but WW2 ended while en route. Continued with the Pacific Fleet until 1949 and refitted at Brisbane early 1946, and Singapore late 1947. Returned to the UK in 1951 and entered the Reserve. Arrived at the Tyne 10-Dec-1958 for breaking up. Won the Battle Honour: Normandy 1944.
