This the twelfth ship to carry the name HMS Harp was a
Modified Black Swan Class, sloop. Built by Stephen, laid down 27-Mar-1942, launched 07-Jul-1943, and commissioned 12-Dec-1943. Joined the 7th Escort group based at the Clyde for escort duty in the North Atlantic. Moved to Gibraltar Mar-1944. Took part in Normandy landing operations. Then escort duty in the English Channel until Sep-1944 when she collided with the Troopship Viking. Damage was repaired at Devonport from 19-Oct to 23-Dec-1944. Served as convoy escort based at Liverpool and sank U-482 on 16-Jan-1945. After the war in Europe ended left the UK 20-Jun-1945 to join the Pacific Fleet which she joined at Hong Kong after the Japanese surrender. Refitted at Brisbane from Dec/Jan-1946. Remained in the Pacific until 1951 and returned to the UK mid-1951 when she was put into reserve. At the end of 1953 was laid up at Lisahally until 1955 when she was put up for sale. Sold Nov-1957 to the Bundesmarine and renamed FGS Scheer on 24-Jan-1958. Put up for disposal 1968. Won the Battle Honours: Normandy 1944, English Channel 1944, Atlantic 1944-45 and Korea 1950-51.
