HMS Hardy (1943) DD  (8th)

    
This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Hardy was the V Class (1943), destroyer leader.  As destroyer leader she had slightly reduced armament to allow the increased complement and working space needed to control a flotilla.

Built by John Brown on the Clyde, laid down 14-May-1942, launched 18-Mar-1943, and commissioned 14-Aug-1943.

On commissioning formed part of the 26th Destroyer Flotilla and served with the Home Fleet in the Arctic. Alternating Convoy escort with Norwegian carrier raids.

Torpedoed and sunk 30-Jan-1944 by U-278 in the Barents Sea.

Won the Battle Honour: Arctic 1943-44.
