The second HMS Exeter was a fourth rate ship of 60 guns 

Built at Portsmouth Dockyard, launched 26-May-1697, 148ft long, 38ft wide, and of 949 tons builders measurement.

Rebuilt at Plymouth between 1740 and 1744 when she was increased in size to 1,068 tons builders measurement with 58 guns. 

Saw action against the French off Newfoundland in 1702,
on 22-March-1711 in the Mediterranean, 1-Oct-1711 at Quiberon Bay, and in 1748 at the Siege of Pondicherry.

Broken up at Portsmouth Nov-1763.
