HMS Cressy (1901) CC  (3rd)

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Cressy was the name ship of a class of six Armoured Cruisers.

Built by Fairfield of Govan, laid down, 12-Oct-1898, launched 04-Dec-1899 and completed 28-May-1901.

On completion went to the China Station 1901-04, then returned to the UK to go into reserve at Portsmouth 1904-07. Next to the America & West Indies Station as Boys Training Ship 1907-09.

Joined the 3rd Fleet at the Nore 1909-14, then the 7th Cruiser Squadron in the North Sea.

Torpedoed and sunk by U-9 in the North Sea, 22-Sep-1914, together with her sister ships Aboukir and Hogue.

Won the Battle Honour: Heligoland 1914.
