HMS Cornwallis (1904) BB  (5th)

    
Thos the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Cornwallis was one of six Duncan Class battleships.

Built by the Thames Iron Works at Blackwall, laid down Jul-1899, launched 13-Jul-1901, and completed Feb-1904.

She joined the Mediterranean Fleet from 1904-05, then on to the Channel, and Atlantic Fleets until 1910. After this it was back to the Mediterranean until 1912 when she transferred to the Home Fleet.

Joined the 6th Battle Squadron 1914 and was detached early in 1915 to join the Dardanelles force, where she played a major part in all that force's operations.

Sunk by U-32 south east of Malta, 9-Jan-1917.

Won the Battle Honour: Dardanelles 1915.
