This the first ship to carry the name HMS Ceylon was a fifth rate, 38-gun, ship.

Originally HMS Bombay, used in the Indian Service, built at Bombay Dockyard, launched 1793, 130ft long, 48ft wide and of 1,701 tons builders measurement. Armed with 14 x 24pdr carronades, 24 x 18pdr and 2 x 9pdr guns.

Bought 1805.

Renamed HMS Ceylon 01-Jul-1808.

Sold 04-Jul-1857.
