HMS Captain (1678)  (1st)

This the first ship to carry the name HMS Captain was a third rate, 70-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built at Woolwich Dockyard, launched 1678, 149ft 6in long, 40ft 6in wide and of 1,041 tons builders measurement (bm).

Armed with 26 x 34pdr, 26 x 12pdr and 18 smaller guns.

Rebuilt 1708 as 1,075 tons bm.

Rebuilt 1722 as 1,131 tons bm.

Hulked Feb-1739.

Broken up at Portsmouth May-1762.

Won the Battle Honours: Barfleur 1692 and Passero 1718.
