HMS Battleaxe (1943) LSD  (1st)

    
This the first ship to carry the name HMS Battleaxe was a landing ship dock (LSD).

Built by the Newport News Shipbuilding Co, laid down 23-Nov-1942, launched 21-May-1943 as LSD-9. Intended to be named HMS Battleaxe.

Transferred to the Royal Navy under lend-lease 14-Sep-1943 and commissioned as HMS Eastway.

Returned to the US Navy 23-Apr-1946.
