This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Andromeda was a 1st
Class, Protected Cruiser. Built at Pembroke Dock, laid down 02-Dec-1895, launched 30-Apr-1897, and completed 05-Sep-1899. On completion went to the Mediterranean 1899-1902, then returned to the UK for refit 1903-04. To the China Station 1904-06 then back to the UK and into reserve 1906-11. Joined the 9th Cruiser Squadron, 3rd Fleet 1912. Served as Boys Training Ship at Devonport 1913-29. Renamed HMS Powerful 23-Sep-1913 and used as Boys Training Ship at Devonport 1913-29. Renamed HMS Impregnable II Nov-1919. Part of the Torpedo School and renamed Defiance 20-Jan-1931. Arrived at Burght, Belgium 14-Aug-1956 for breaking up.
