| By
June-1916 some destroyer builders were running short of work and the
opportunity was taken to modify the R
Class (1916) design.
The final few ships of the R Class were completed to the new design. The bridge was moved further aft with forecastles extended, guns given greater (30º) elevation and usual weight growth accommodated.
