| Description |
The action took place off Cape Spada on the north coast of Crete. HMAS Sydney and accompanying destroyers engaged two Italian cruisers, Bartolomeo Colleoni and Giovanni delle Bande (each 8 x 6" guns.) Bartolomeo Colleoni was sunk but the other although damaged was able to reach Benghazi.
