This the second ship to carry the name HMS Wilton was a
prototype mine counter measures vessel and was the first warship in the
world to have her hull constructed of Glass-fibre reinforced plastic
(GRP) for both low magnetic properties and resistance to corrosion.
Equipped for both minesweeping and minehunting. Her equipment came from the scrapped HMS Derrington. Built by Vosper Thorneycroft, laid down 07-Aug-1970, launched 18-Jan-1972 and commissioned 14-Jul-1973. Paid off 27-Jul-1994 and sold Aug-2001.
