HMS Shah (1943) CVE  (2nd)

    
This the second ship to carry the name HMS Shah was a Ruler Class (1942) escort aircraft carrier. Built for the US Navy as USS Jamaica, CVE 43, and transferred to the Royal Navy under lease-lend terms.

Built by Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Corp, laid down 13-Nov-1942, launched 21-Apr-1943, transferred to the Royal Navy and commissioned 27-Sep-1943.

Modifications to meet Royal Navy requirements followed at Vancouver, which took until 02-Jan-1944 when she was Allocated to the East Indies Fleet. Sailed via the West Coast USA and Australia.

Joined the Eastern Fleet on its formation Oct-1944 and completed various duties there until 12-Sep-1945 when she sailed for the UK.

Arrived in the UK for the first time to de-store at the Clyde 07-Oct-1945.

Returned to the USA at the Norfolk Navy yard 06-Dec-1945.

Sold as the merchant ship Salta 20-Jun-1947

Broken up for scrap in Buenos Aires 1966.

Won the Battle Honours: East Indies 1944 and Burma 1945.
