HMS Prince George (1896) BB  (4th)

    
This the fourth vessel to carry the name HMS Prince George, was one of nine Majestic Class battleships.

She was built at Portsmouth Dockyard, laid down in Sep-1894, launched 22-Aug-1895 and completed in Nov-1896.

She served with the Channel Fleet from 1896-1903. Refitted 1904, then served mainly with the Home fleet until 1914 when she joined the 7th battle Squadron for operations in the Channel.

In early 1915 she joined the Dardanelles force and was badly damaged on 2-May-1915. After repair at Malta, she returned to the Dardanelles and was hit by a torpedo which failed to explode.

After the Dardanelles she returned to Chatham for dockyard and depot ship duties.

Renamed HMS Victorious II 1918 and used for harbour service.

Sold 29-Jan-1921. Resold and stranded off Kamperduin 30-Dec-1921 while under tow to Germany for breaking up.

Won the Battle Honour; Dardanelles 1915-16.
