This the second ship to carry the name HMS Polyphemus was a wooden paddle sloop.

Built at Chatham Dockyard, launched 28-Sep-1840, 164ft long, 33ft wide and of 801 tons builders measurement.  Armed with 5 x 32pdr guns, and 5 x torpedo tubes.

Wrecked off the coast of Jutland 29-Jan-1856.
