HMS Melpomene (1857) (3rd)

This the third ship to carry the name HMS Melpomene was a
wooden screw frigate. Built at Pembroke Dock, launched 08-Aug-1857, 237ft long, 52ft wide and of 2,861 tons builders measurement. Spent eight years on the stocks and was originally intended to be a fourth rate, ship, of 2,147 tons builders measurement. Sold 23-Jan-1875
