HMS Marathon (1889) CC  (1st)

    
This the first ship to carry the name HMS Marathon was a 2nd Class, protected cruiser.

Built by Fairfield of Govan, laid down 10-Aug-1887, launched 23-Aug-1888 and completed 1889.

On completion went to the East Indies Station 1890-97. Refitted at Portsmouth 1897-98, then returned to the East Indies 1899-1901.

Returned to the UK and was laid up at Portsmouth 1901-04.

Sold 1905.
