This the first ship to carry the name HMS Iron Duke was one of four
Audacious Class battleships.
Built at Pembroke Dock and launched 01-Mar-1987. Served on the China Station 1871-1875. The after guardship duties and a refit she returned to the Far East in 1878, where she was Flagship until 1883. After a second refit, Iron Duke completed her service in the Channel, going into Reserve in 1890. Reduced to a coal hulk in 1900 and sold 15-Jun-1906.
