HMS Iron Duke (1871) BB  (1st)

This the first ship to carry the name HMS Iron Duke was one of four Audacious Class battleships.

Built at Pembroke Dock and launched 01-Mar-1987.

Served on the China Station 1871-1875. 

The after guardship duties and a refit she returned to the Far East in 1878, where she was Flagship until 1883.

After a second refit, Iron Duke completed her service in the Channel, going into Reserve in 1890.

Reduced to a coal hulk in 1900 and sold 15-Jun-1906.
