This the second ship to carry the name HMS Harvester was an H Class
(1940) destroyer. Built by Thornycroft, for the Brazilian Navy (Jurena), laid down 06-Jul-1938, launched 01-Aug-1939, bought 04-Sep-1939, and commissioned 10-Feb-1940 as HMS Handy. Renamed HMS Harvester 27-Feb-1940. Took part in the evacuations from France. With Highlander assisted in the sinking of U-32 off Ireland. From 1941 moved to escort duties in the North Atlantic. 11-Mar-1943 NE of the Azores rammed and sank U-444 but was badly damaged. Later that day was torpedoed and sunk by U-432. Won the Battle Honours: Dunkirk 1940 and Atlantic 1940-43.
