This Dreadnought the eighth to carry the name, was a class
of one. Originally named HMS Fury, she was renamed Dreadnought shortly
before being launched.
Built at Pembroke Dock, laid down 1872, launched 08-Mar-1875 and completed 1879. On completion she went straight into Reserve. But in 1884 joined the
fleet in the Mediterranean, where she remained until 1894. From 1902 she was used mainly as a depot ship until being sold in 1908. Broken up at Barrow and Preston from Feb-1909. |
