HMS Diomede (1922) CC  (3rd)

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Diomede was a Light Cruiser.

Built by Vickers, laid down 03-Jun-1918, launched 29-Apr-1919, completed at Portsmouth Dockyard and commissioned 22-Oct-1922.

To the China Station 1922 - 1925 with the 5th Light Cruiser Squadron.

Joined the New Zealand Squadron 21-Oct-1925 until 1935, when she was detached temporarily to the 4th Cruiser Squadron in the East Indies. Relieved on the NZ Squadron 31-Mar-1936 by HMS Achilles, and returned to the Royal Navy.

Spent time in Reserve or on trooping duties.

On Sep-1939 was with 7th Cruiser Squadron with the Home Fleet on Northern Patrol Duties.

Then went to 8th Cruiser Squadron to the American and West Indies Command from 1940-42. Intercepted the blockade runner Idarwald off Tampico, Mexico on 15-Dec-1940.

Went to the South Atlantic and Africa 1942 then home for refit at Rosyth from 22-Jul-1942 until 24-Sep-1943, when she converted to a training ship.

Into Reserve 1945 and sold 05-Apr-1946, for breaking up by Arnott Young of Dalmuir.
